Inspiration and Ideas
It's been a long time since I brewed. In the past three years I've started a new job and have been working towards becoming a Landscape Architect. Unfortunately, brewing had to take a back seat through this. But with coronavirus leaving me at home every weekend and having had to cancel all of my plans for travelling this summer, I knew it was time to take it up again. And I'm honestly super excited to begin with it again.
This time, I'm returning back to my greatest challenge: to brew the best IPA I can make. It may seem easy and not a big deal, but I've never really been satisfied with an IPA that I've brewed. So this next step in my brewing is going to have me attempting to dial in a set of IPA recipes and more importantly, process. I'll begin by remaking a bunch of the American Homebrewing Association's recipes to try and find what's working and what's not. The name of the beer series will be - Iteration - a continuation of my days at Crannog Ales when my Iteration series was in full swing.
The next beer that I'll continue making is Saison and Wild Ales. I've made more Saison than any other beer style, and love the process. I'm looking forward to trying a series of recipes from AHA as well as the recipe that I made at Mediamatic again. The plan is to do hoppier Saisons in kegs, treating them like Pale Ales; classic clean Saisons in bottles, refermented; and long-term soured/funky saisons aged in corny kegs. The name of the beer series will be - Tolhuis - named after the place that I'm making my beers now.
I'm now for the first time planning to ferment in corny kegs, and do entirely closed transfer brewing. I'm also hoping to get better with pH and water in my brewing. I've also just bought a Grainfather, which has really helped with being more consistent in brewing. Anyway, that's it. On to brewing.
